Welcome to your Baby Session Guide

What to expect

Please allow about an hour for your baby photoshoot. This is the limit that a young baby has for a photoshoot before they become disinterested, tired or sleepy. Louise will work fast to ensure that we have a lovely variety of images of your baby.

Please bring any outfits that you have that you would like your baby photographed in, though please be mindful, that young babies don’t tolerate many outfit changes, so limiting them to a maximum of three is advised. Louise also has outfits that you may like to use for your photoshoot. Louise will direct you as to what you should do and how the session will flow.

Preparing for the session

The most important element for a successful baby photoshoot is a happy baby. This typically means that your baby is fed and has had a nice sleep before he/she arrives for the photoshoot. If anything happens on the day of your shoot and your baby’s schedule is disrupted and you think they won’t be happy at the scheduled time, please give Louise a call. She would rather be flexible with the time of your shoot to ensure that we are taking the best photos possible.

What to wear

As Louise’s images illustrate, the best clothing choices for baby photography are classic, plain, simple outfits. It is very important to pay particular attention to your hair, makeup and nails (as they may be in close up shots). Taking some time for yourself before the shoot to ensure that you are happy with your hair and makeup will result in images that you will be much happier with.

When deciding on what to wear, choose your outfit first, it should be an outfit that flatters you and that you feel good in.

Once you have chosen your outfit, you can then select what the rest of the family will wear. The best way to choose clothes is to choose pieces for each member of the family that are complimentary colours. For example, if you are wearing a bright red dress, the image won't look harmonious if the rest of the family is wearing pastel colours.

It is best to avoid t'shirts with logos, slogans, bold patterns and stripes. Some details to watch include making sure your child's hair is tidy and that the men have shaved recently.

If you have older children, keep the following in mind when dressing them. A neutral colour scheme is best, so we don’t detract from the relationship with the baby. Avoiding casual t’shirts, particularly those with slogans, and avoiding busy prints is best. Jeans with no shirt can work well for boys and girls in a plain white dress is equally as classic. The following are outfits that may give you some ideas of what other ideas work well for children. If you are having trouble selecting an outfit, please call Louise and she will happily guide you via FaceTime.
