Family Photography What to Wear and Session Guide
Congratulations on booking your Family Photography Session. We are going to have so much fun and create beautiful artwork for your walls or a stunning photobook for your coffee table. I can’t wait to blow you away.
How to prepare for your photography session
You may wish to plan ahead and book the following appointments for a few days prior to your photography session; haircuts for each family member, hair colour if you colour your hair and nail or tan appointment if this is important to you. You may also want to set a reminder a few days prior, to check that any clothes to be worn for the photoshoot are not currently in the wash cycle. Some clients book in hair and makeup appointments for the day of the photoshoot, if this is an important aspect for them.
The day prior, ensure each family member has washed their hair and on the day of the shoot, some details to watch include making sure your child's hair is tidy and that the men have shaved recently, if applicable.
What to wear to a photography session
The first thing to do when addressing this question, is to select the outfit Mum is going to wear. It should be an outfit that flatters you and that you feel good in. Plain colours tend to be better than stripes or patterns. Once you have chosen your outfit, you can then select what the rest of the family will wear. It is best to avoid t'shirts with logos, slogans, bold patterns and stripes. Feel free to have a browse through Louise’s pinterest board for inspiration, which can be found here. Matching outfits is no longer the trend, the better alternative is to select clothes that suit the personality of each person, whilst maintaining a similar colour palette or complimentary colours. You can lay all outfits on the bed to make sure that they are all complimentary. You are also welcome to bring a couple of options so Louise can guide you or message Louise prior to your shoot for advice. The following are complimentary colour palettes that you may wish to use as the base for selecting clothes.
Suggested Looks
The following outfits are designed to inspire you for the various members of your family. Of course, these are not exhaustive, they will give you a feel for the types of outfits that would work well.
