One thing I am loving about my photography journey is that it allows me to catch up with old friends. I haven't seen Nat since we worked together more than a decade ago! (I used to be an accountant in my past life, in fact, I am still CPA qualified). Nat has since had two beautiful daughters and we met up for a family session. We headed out to a new location that I had just found, which has everything from trees, to lakes and even a mini beach in Sydney's west! Even the ducks came out for our photoshoot.
Sydney harbour | Sydney Family Photographer
As I explained earlier this month, I wasn't actually born in Australia. And although I still have nostalgic feelings for Ireland, I definitely call Australia home. When I am away, I just love it when I fly in over Sydney Harbour and see the magnificent glory that is beneath me. From time to time, I have international clients, who may be visiting Australia, the may be living here for a short time, or like me, they have decided to move here permanently. These clients wanted to have family photos to send back home to relatives. They really wanted a quintessential Australian backdrop. And there's nothing that says Sydney, Australia like the Oprah house and the Harbour Bridge in the background.
This was a beautiful family and isn't little Jack cute. He was actually a little bit sick on the day of the shoot, but he was a little trouper and didn't complain at all during our shoot.
Family beach session | Sydney Photographer
I mentioned previously that I am selling a lot of acrylics lately. I don't know if it genuinely has overtaken frames and canvas' as a medium, or if I am just so excited about them that my clients feel this excitement too. Either way, I am loving it and I am so proud to deliver the orders! When this client called me, she too had acrylic in mind. So we decided to go to the beach to bring out those tranquil background colours. And lets face it, we have some amazing beaches in Australia.
So we headed off to Coogee beach for the photoshoot. These sisters are just stunning and were a joy to photograph. They were troupers as it was quite a cool evening We also took some beautiful family shots and the sun set behind us. If I could just photograph at the beach, I would.
Have yourself a merry Aussie Christmas... | Sydney Photographer
I was originally born in Dublin, Ireland and we moved to Australia when I was a child. I do love being an Aussie. I love the lifestyle, the weather and the laid back nature of the people. But.....Christmas has never felt the same. I am used to waking up a cold Christmas morning, running down the stairs to open the presents. We would light the fire and huddle around and enjoy our gifts. For dinner, it was traditional all the way. Cooked turkey and ham with roast vegetables and all the trimmings. We try to continue this tradition in Australia, but cooking a hot meal when it is often so hot outside, is probably quite silly. We sit around our air conditioned dining table, eating traditional hot food and fanning ourselves. For quite a few years, we didn't even have an air conditioner, so the exercise was even more futile! Still, I won't venture into "the grass is greener on the other side". The truth is, there are amazing things about both countries, so you have to focus on the positive. I did spend a Christmas in Ireland as an adult, and I was lucky enough to get snow. Hopefully, I will get to experience it again with my children.
So....with that as a back story, I decided to fully embrace Aussie culture for the 2012 Christmas photo. What's more Australian than a lifesaver on the beach? So, I give you, my little Aussie lifesavers.
Fun Family Session | Sydney Family Photographer
This family session was a whole lot of fun with a little bit of madness thrown in for good measure! It was a high energy session, as you can imagine with four little ones and we had a lot of fun. I am sure the neighbours were wondering what all the noise was next door though! And what a beautiful family, culling these beautiful images wasn't an easy task.
I am selling acrylic images way more than any other type of medium at the moment, and they really suit modern homes. The images look like they are printed on glass and come ready to hang. We printed the family image and four square individual ones of the children in acrylic. They are a stunning addition to the family home and I am told that they have been met with many "wow's" as visitors walk into the home.
I love this photo, his cute personality shines right through.
I love this, because we got some lovely pictures of this little boy, who really wasn't keen on being photographed. So we just made a fun game for him to enjoy instead.
Beautiful Momma-to-be | Hills Maternity Photographer
One of the things I love about my job is meeting new people. I must say, I have been blessed with lovely clients, and this couple were no exception. And this is one of the few sessions where I didn't get lost on the way! Yes, even with a sat nav, I manage to get lost going to most sessions. I do know the Hills area in Sydney quite well by now, but I was pleased when I managed to get (almost) to the house without getting lost. This stunning Mumma-to-be had some ideas for her session, and like many clients, she sent me a link to her pinterest board. I really love pinterest, it is a great way to collect ideas and for me to get a good feel for what images move my clients, so I can work on a common vision and deliver this.
Amanda, from Glamorous by Amanda, did a wonderful job with hair and make-up. And even the dog was washed and prep'd for our session.
I am so pleased with the images from our session, and I can't wait to meet the baby in January.
Beautiful headshots | Sydney Headshot photographer
I had the pleasure of photographing Cait, from Indigo Counselling and Psychotherapy for her business headshots. Cait specialises in grief and bereavement counselling and is located in Penrith. From the minute you meet Cait, you can see why people warm to her and trust her. She is incredibly kind and genuine and so talented and knowledgeable in her field. We had so much fun during her shoot and I love her final images. Be sure to check out her website or look her up on facebook.
Three cute boys | Sydney family photographer
I have been so busy lately that I haven't updated my blog in some time. I have been travelling a lot lately, from Sydney's northern suburbs to the western suburbs. This was a session I did a little while ago in Sydney's west. These were three very handsome little boys.
A brother is a friend for life...
Sunset Silhouette Images | Sydney Photographer
I get lost a lot. If you are a client of mine, you probably know this. To break the ice, a lot of clients ask me "did you find us ok". I am honest and tell people that I got lost. This used to frustrate me, because I pride myself on being reasonably intelligent. Yet, when it comes to reading a map, I simply can't. I was excited when satnav systems were invented, because surely that would fix my problem, right? Wrong. I still get lost. The satnav will give out instructions, I will get confused "does she mean this road, or the next one", and then I will miss the turn. Or I argue with her, because she is asking me to turn right at the no right turn and then repeatedly tells me to "do a U turn".
I have learnt to accept this personality flaw. You can't be great at everything, right?
Well, one day, this personality flaw served me well. I was coming home from a photoshoot and I got lost. Suddenly, I was driving past the most amazing location. It had everything, water, trees for directional light, footpaths, a mini beach and then, I saw the most amazing hill facing west. All I could imagine was the glorious sunset that you would see there and then I had a vision of a silhouette of a family against the sunset.
Fast forward a couple of weeks, and we were going out for a dinner celebration for my beautiful son, who was turning 8. It was about 5 minutes from this magical hill, so I grabbed the camera bag just in case.
The sun was setting just as we left the restaurant, so we drove to the hill. The conditions were perfect! This was such a fun session. It took 8 minutes in total and the boys had a really good time. One thing I love and was surprised with, is that their personalities shine right through in these images, even though you can't see the expression.
Never have I felt happier with my inability to follow directions.
I hope you enjoy these and I hope to shoot there again soon.
The birthday boy!
My husband, the biggest kid of all!
Family Beach Session | Sydney Family Photographer
I have photographed this beautiful little girl and her stunning Mumma, three times now. I haven't seen her in over a year though so I was so struck by how much she has grown. She has definately left the baby stage behind and has turned into an incredibly cute little girl with the most gorgeous, curly hair. For our shoot, we met at the beach, as it has lush green scenery as well as the sand and the water. We started off on the hill and then headed down to the water. Luckily for us, we had most images done before it started to rain.
Enjoy this beautiful family...
